Guy Laramee delicately cuts caverns through the centers of books. He carves the pages away to reveal caves that seem to be ready to be explored. His work explores the insides of books in a very literal way. Indeed, Laramee’s sculptures in way recall the plot of a classic: Journey to the Center of the Earth. And, in fact, Laramee mentions this book in his statement on the series. He says:

“Like in Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, we seem to be chained to this quest. We “have to” know what lies inside things. But in doing so, we bury ourselves in the “about-ness” of our productions – language, function, etc- all things “about” other things.”

Accidental Archives by Sara Cwynar

The Canadian photographer Sara Cwynar collected coloured objects over years. She then began to put the similiar colours together and thus created beautiful images. It said there is no connection, besides the colour: just by accident. However, one may notice that some things do go hand in hand.

The artist herself has quite the impressive resume, among them New York Times Magazine. She is currently working in New York, having had already several exhibitions at galleries all around, such as 107 Shaw Gallery and at the Canadian Butcher Gallery.

THE THING Quarterly is a periodical in the form of an object. Each year, four artists, writers, musicians or filmmakers are invited by the editors (Jonn Herschend and Will Rogan) to create a useful object that somehow incorporates text. This object will be reproduced and hand wrapped at a wrapping party and then mailed to the homes of the subscribers with the help of the United States Postal Service.
